CHAGOSSIANS OCCUPYING TRAFALGAR SQUARE FOR COUPLE OF DAYS

On the 20th of June, the Chagossians Community occupied Trafalgar Square for a couple of days to raise awareness about their community to which is on the verge of extinction. The elderly spent several days, aiming to raise public awareness of our ongoing struggle for justice.  Too many natives born on the islands are dying in exile.  The second generations of the Chagossians are living in fear of losing their identity.  Until today the British Government is unable to confirm how many Chagossians are living in exile in the UK.  This is because the Government has never done any census for our community.  We are being considered as British- Mauritian; no reference about the Chagos Island.

We are still suffering from the psychological, emotional and economic consequences of the expulsion.  Till this day, no country is caring for our welfare.  We are being traded and bribe by both Mauritius and Great Britain.  America chose to remain silent and continue to utilise our land without even enquiring about our well-being.

The protest was led by those Chagossians who directly suffered deportation from their homeland in the 1960’s and 1970’s. We received a lot of visitors who were shocked and ashamed of their Governments. We explained that the clear aim of the world leaders that is Great Britain and the United State of America are waiting for all the Natives of the Chagos Island pass on, then claim the island for themselves.
